  • Democracy in the Americas: Exploring Pre-Columbian Roots
    The evidence suggests that it did not. Many Native American communities were characterized by egalitarian traditions similar to democracy. There also existed some city-states with democratic features. However, in no pre-Columbian society do we find full democracies on a national scale, a phenomenon which originated in ancient Greece.
