The hyoliths belong to different phyla (such as Hyolitha of uncertain affinities, Cephalopoda and Brachiopoda), and can only be considered lophophorates in its broader sense, which also include brachiopods, phoronids, bryozoans (entoprocts excepted) and other extinct groups including rhombozoa and cycliophores.
