  • California Sea Lion Migration: Why They're Heading to Oregon
    For several years now, the number of California sea lions has been trending downward in their longtime hangouts around San Francisco Bay including Pier 39. However, they've been migrating en masse down the California and Oregon coasts in search of a better food source: anchovies.

    During summer and fall months especially, thousands of them can now be found along a relatively small stretch of the central Oregon coast around Newport and Yachats. Their largest haul-out locations include:

    * South Beach State Park

    * Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint

    * Devil's Punchbowl State Natural Area
