    The source of energy for photosynthesis is light.

    More specifically, the light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll and other pigments within the chloroplasts of plant cells. This light energy is then used to power the chemical reactions that convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose (sugar) and oxygen.
