  • ATP: The Primary Energy Source for Living Cells - Explained
Living cells primarily use ATP (adenosine triphosphate) as their main source of energy.

    Here's why:

    * ATP is a readily available energy currency: It stores and releases energy in small, manageable amounts, perfect for cellular processes.

    * ATP is produced through cellular respiration: This process breaks down glucose (sugar) in the presence of oxygen, releasing energy that is used to create ATP.

    * ATP fuels many cellular functions: It powers processes like muscle contraction, protein synthesis, active transport, and nerve impulses.

While ATP is the main source of energy, cells can also use other sources like glucose, fatty acids, and even light (in photosynthetic organisms). However, these sources are usually converted into ATP before they can be used by the cell.
