  • Food Chains: Understanding the Flow of Energy in Ecosystems
The path of energy from the sun to one living thing to another is called a food chain.

    Here's how it works:

    * Sun: The sun is the ultimate source of energy for almost all life on Earth.

    * Producers: Plants use sunlight to make their own food through photosynthesis. They are called producers.

    * Consumers: Animals eat plants or other animals to obtain energy. They are called consumers.

    * Decomposers: Bacteria and fungi break down dead organisms, returning nutrients to the soil.

    Example:

    * Sun provides energy to grass (producer).

    * Grasshopper (consumer) eats the grass.

    * Frog (consumer) eats the grasshopper.

    * Hawk (consumer) eats the frog.

The energy flows from the sun to producers, then to consumers, and finally to decomposers. This energy flow is essential for the survival of all living things.
