  • Compass Metal Detector: Comprehensive User Guide
By Ashton Daigle | Updated March 24, 2022 Photo credit: nikkytok/iStock/GettyImages Whether you’re seeking a new hobby or hoping to uncover buried treasures, a metal detector can be a rewarding investment. Compass, a trusted name in the industry, offers models that are easy to maintain and user‑friendly. Their sensors are engineered to filter out common mineral deposits, enabling deeper penetration and more reliable detection of buried metals.

    Step 1

Read your owner's manual carefully before assembling and using your metal detector.

    Step 2

Use a small Phillips screwdriver to open the battery compartment lid on the control housing and install your 9‑volt battery. Close the battery compartment lid and tighten the lid screw.

    Step 3

Remove the thumb nut and screw from the extended rod at the lower front section of the metal detector's control housing.

    Step 4

Attach the large end of the telescoping arm to the section of extended rod at the base of the control housing, insert the screw and thumb nut and tighten by hand.

    Step 5

Remove the black knurled nut from the detector's loop. After you have done this then remove the machine bolt and the two white plastic washers.

    Step 6

Set the small end of the telescoping arm to the loop and align the mounting holes on the loop with the mounting holes on the telescoping arm. Once the holes are aligned, replace the white washers, the machine bolt and the black knurled nut and tighten them by hand.

    Step 7

Loosen the black plastic adjusting clamp at the center of the telescoping arm by turning it to the left. Adjust the length of the arm to your height and then tighten the adjusting clamp.

    Step 8

Wrap the loop cord around the shaft and then plug it into the bottom of the control box.

    Step 9

    Flip the power switch on.

    Things Needed

    • 9‑volt battery
    • Screwdriver

    TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read)

Keep an eye on your battery: a low charge is the most common cause of malfunction. When not in use, store the battery in the freezer.
