  • Calculating an Appliance’s Power Rating: A Practical Step‑by‑Step Guide

    Power rating is the total electrical power an appliance consumes during normal operation. While manufacturers typically list this figure in the user manual or on the appliance’s information tag, you can determine it yourself if you know the current (amps) and voltage (volts) specifications.

    Step 1: Identify the Current

    The current rating, expressed in amperes (amps), is found in the user manual, on the transformer, or stamped on the appliance’s sticker.

    Step 2: Identify the Voltage

    The voltage rating, measured in volts (V), is located in the same places as the current information.

    Step 3: Calculate the Power Rating

    Multiply the current by the voltage: Power (W) = Current (A) × Voltage (V). The result, expressed in watts, is the appliance’s power rating.
