    Electronic balances are now a staple in high‑school and college chemistry labs, delivering mass measurements with a precision that traditional balances cannot match. Their accuracy is essential for experiments that demand exact reagent quantities, and their intuitive design makes them approachable for users of all skill levels.

    Step 1: Place the balance on a level surface

    Set the electronic balance on a flat, stable surface inside a draft‑free area. Even minor vibrations or unevenness can affect the accuracy of the measurement.

    Step 2: Power on and allow the display to stabilize

    Press the ON button and wait until the digital readout shows a steady zero.

    Step 3: Put an empty container on the pan

    Use tongs or gloves to place the empty container you will use for the substance. Fingerprints or grease can add unwanted mass, so avoid touching the container directly.

    Step 4: Tare the container

    Press the Tare or Zero button to record the container’s weight in the balance’s memory. The display will return to zero.

    Step 5: Add the substance

    Carefully pour or transfer the substance into the container while it remains on the pan if possible. Avoid placing the container on surfaces that could transfer additional material to the sample.

    Step 6: Record the measured mass

    Place the container back on the pan if it was removed, and read the mass displayed on the screen. This value is the net mass of the substance, minus the container’s weight.
