  • Wire as Conductor vs. Insulator: Understanding Electrical Properties
    It depends on the type of wire!

    * Most wires are conductors. They are made of materials like copper, aluminum, or silver, which allow electricity to flow easily through them.

    * Some wires are insulators. These are often used to cover the conductive wires to prevent electric shocks. Common insulating materials include rubber, plastic, and enamel.

    So, a wire itself can be both a conductor (the core) and an insulator (the covering).
