  • Silicon Energy Bands & Current Flow: Conduction & Valence Bands Explained
In silicon, current is produced due to the movement of electrons within the conduction band and valence band.

    * Conduction band: This band is higher in energy and is where electrons can move freely, carrying current.

    * Valence band: This band is lower in energy and is where electrons are normally bound to atoms.

The energy gap between these two bands is what determines the electrical conductivity of silicon.
