  • Shock Absorbers: How They Work to Dampen Suspension & Absorb Energy
The device used primarily to absorb energy and dampen suspension oscillation is a shock absorber.

    Here's why:

    * Energy Absorption: Shock absorbers are designed to convert kinetic energy (energy of motion) into heat energy. This happens when the piston inside the shock absorber moves against hydraulic fluid, creating friction and dissipating the energy.

    * Damping Suspension Oscillation: Suspension systems naturally oscillate (bounce) after encountering bumps or uneven surfaces. Shock absorbers control these oscillations by providing resistance to both compression and rebound, preventing excessive bouncing and ensuring a smoother ride.

While other components in a suspension system like springs also play a role in handling bumps, the shock absorber is the primary component responsible for absorbing energy and controlling oscillation.
