    Computer chips, or microprocessors, are made from a complex combination of materials, but the primary metal used is silicon.

    Here's why silicon is the main ingredient:

    * Semiconducting properties: Silicon is a semiconductor, meaning it can conduct electricity under certain conditions. This property is crucial for building transistors and other electronic components.

    * Easy to manipulate: Silicon can be easily purified, sliced, and etched to create intricate patterns for integrated circuits.

    While silicon is the foundation, other metals are also crucial for computer chip fabrication:

    * Aluminum: Used for interconnects, connecting different parts of the chip.

    * Copper: Increasingly replacing aluminum for faster data transmission.

    * Gold: Used for bonding and as a contact material in some components.
