  • Latex and Electricity: Understanding Its Insulating Properties
Latex is a very good insulator of electricity.

    Here's why:

    * Composition: Latex is a natural rubber polymer, primarily composed of hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are generally poor conductors of electricity because their electrons are tightly bound within the molecule.

    * Structure: The long chains of molecules in latex create a barrier for the flow of free electrons, which are needed for electricity to conduct.

This is why latex gloves are commonly used in situations where electrical hazards are present. They provide an extra layer of protection against electrical shocks.
