  • Understanding Electrical Current in Metal Wires: The Role of Electrons
    In metal wires, electric current is carried primarily by electrons. Metals have a lattice structure where the outermost electrons, known as valence electrons, are loosely bound to their atoms. These electrons are free to move throughout the metal lattice, forming a "sea" of mobile charge carriers. When an electric potential difference is applied across a metal wire, these mobile electrons experience a force due to the electric field and begin to drift, carrying electric current through the wire.
