In an electromagnetic experiment, the controlled variable is usually the current flowing through the circuit. This can be controlled by adjusting the resistance in the circuit, or by varying the voltage applied to the circuit. By keeping the current constant, other variables, such as the magnetic field strength or the induced electromotive force (EMF), can be measured and analysed.
