  • Laptop Use Linked to Increased Deception in Bargaining Situations
The study's results suggest that devices do indeed shape our behavior when we interact with strangers in bargaining situations. Specifically, when using laptops, people were more likely to lie while bargaining by falsely increasing their initial monetary offer or by denying any possibility of further negotiation compared to those with phones. However, these device effects depended on individual variations such as personality traits and gender.

These findings imply that individuals should be mindful of the potential negative outcomes when using various technological tools in real-world social activities and interactions involving negotiations of offers when they use various technology for these purposes. As people increasingly rely on technological mediation for social interactions, understanding individuals' behaviors influenced by devices can benefit designing ethical technologies, implementing effective social policies, and facilitating harmonious digital social interactions.
