  • HPE Q2 2024 Results: Revenue Growth Driven by Hybrid Cloud & Personal Systems
(Bloomberg) -- Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. topped Wall Street estimates on revenue, helped by steady growth in its personal systems and hybrid-cloud solutions segments, but the company expects demand for some products to weaken in the second half of the year.

The company reported a revenue increase of 4% to $6.8 billion during its fiscal second quarter, exceeding analysts’ projections. This surge was largely driven by the success of its personal systems business, which saw an 18% increase in revenue, particularly in gaming offerings and commercial notebooks.

HPE’s hybrid cloud solutions segment, which includes cloud services, also witnessed a 9% revenue growth. However, this segment’s compute product revenue declined by 10%, indicating a shifting market dynamic.

Speaking about the results, HPE CEO Antonio Neri expressed optimism about the overall technology sector while acknowledging potential headwinds. He said, “These results indicate that the tech sector is holding up relatively well, although demand for certain products could ease in the second half of the year due to market dynamics.”

He attributed this potential slowdown to factors such as geopolitical uncertainties, shifting customer preferences, and supply chain challenges. Neri also stressed the importance of continued investment in research and development to stay ahead in the competitive market.

Despite these concerns, Neri remained positive about the company’s position and strategy, emphasizing the growing role of edge computing and the need for secure IT infrastructure.

In terms of profitability, HPE reported a 17% decline in net income to $507 million. Non-GAAP net income, which excludes certain costs and expenses, fell by 8% to $736 million. These declines were primarily attributed to increased costs, including higher component and freight prices.

In the after-hours trading session, HPE’s stock initially rose by over 1% but later erased most of those gains.

HPE’s earnings announcement provides insights into the ongoing trends and challenges in the technology sector. While the company’s quarterly performance was generally strong, the cautionary comments about potential demand softness in the coming months underscore the seesawing nature of the tech industry’s recovery.
