The program, called the "Learning to Learn" initiative, is designed to help students develop the skills they need to succeed in college and beyond.
The program includes a series of workshops, online modules, and one-on-one tutoring sessions.
Topics covered include time management, note-taking, reading comprehension, test preparation, and effective communication. Students also learn about different learning styles and how to identify and use their own strengths.
The Learning to Learn" initiative has been developed by RIT's Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).
> "We know that students who are able to learn effectively are more likely to succeed in college," says CTL director Dr. David R. Monroe. "This program is designed to give our students the tools they need to be successful."
The program is being piloted with a group of first-year students this fall.
If it is successful, it will be expanded to all first-year students next year.
RIT is committed to providing its students with the best possible education. The Learning to Learn" initiative is just one example of how the university is working to help its students succeed.
Here are some of the specific skills that students will learn in the "Learning to Learn" program:
- How to manage their time effectively. Students will learn how to create a schedule, set priorities, and stick to them.
- How to take effective notes. Students will learn different note-taking methods and how to use them in different situations.
- How to read actively and comprehend complex material. Students will learn how to identify main ideas, make connections between ideas, and ask questions about the material they are reading.
- How to prepare for tests and exams. Students will learn how to create study guides, practice answering test questions, and manage their anxiety on test day.
- How to communicate effectively in writing and speaking. Students will learn how to write clear and concise papers, give effective presentations, and participate in discussions.
By learning these skills, RIT students will be well-prepared for success in college and beyond.
