  • FBI Faces Scrutiny Over License Plate Reader Privacy Concerns
Emails obtained by The Associated Press show internal privacy concerns by the FBI surrounding plans to expand a controversial system that connects law enforcement across the country through sharing real-time license plate numbers and images captured without a warrant from cameras attached to police vehicles and streetlights. The program is already live in some 19 states and more than 30 large and small cities around the country, including Chicago, Boston, and Miami. In addition to privacy fears, experts worry the technology is also ineffective against crime.
