UIUC Team to Showcase Undetectable Photo Insertions at SIGGRAPH

Champaign, IL – July 25, 2023 – A team of researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) will present their groundbreaking research on undetectable photo insertions at the upcoming SIGGRAPH conference in Los Angeles. The team's work has the potential to revolutionize the field of digital forensics by making it possible to detect even the most sophisticated attempts to manipulate photographs.

The UIUC team, led by Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Center for Digital Forensics and Security (DIFS) Nasir Memon, has developed a novel deep learning algorithm that can identify photo insertions with unprecedented accuracy. The algorithm is able to analyze the texture, lighting, and shadows in a photograph to determine whether or not it has been tampered with.

"Our algorithm is the first of its kind to be able to detect even the most sophisticated photo insertions," said Professor Memon. "This is a major breakthrough in the field of digital forensics and has the potential to change the way that we investigate crimes and ensure the integrity of our digital evidence."

The team's research will be presented at SIGGRAPH, the world's largest conference on computer graphics and interactive techniques, on August 7, 2023. The presentation will include a live demonstration of the algorithm's capabilities, as well as a discussion of the implications of this research for the future of digital forensics.
