Plasma is one of the states of matter. Plasma, however, is hard to define, as it resembles a solid, a liquid and a gas. To make a substance resembling plasma, all you need is baking soda and water. You can easily make plasma at home or in a science class at school. Follow these steps to make plasma from baking soda and water.
Place two cups of baking soda powder into a plastic container that comes with its own lid. Place the lid on the container and shake the baking soda well for at least five minutes.
Transfer the baking soda to a large bowl.
Pour the tap water into the baking soda slowly. Stir the mixture with a spoon while adding the water.
Continue to stir the baking soda and water mixture with a spoon until no more powdered baking soda is visible.
Add a few drops of the food coloring of your choice to color the plasma. Stir well with a spoon to distribute the color.
Remove the plasma from the bowl and play with or use in a classroom as desired.
To make a larger quantity of plasma for a science class, just increase the quantities of baking soda and water keeping the baking soda to water ratio the same. Follow all steps as above.
Making plasma can create a mess. Be sure to protect your work area. Newspapers work well as protection. Do not eat the plasma.
