  • Ethanoic Acid and Universal Indicator: Color Change Explained
Ethanoic acid (also known as acetic acid) is a weak acid. When added to universal indicator, it will turn the indicator slightly reddish or orange.

    Here's why:

    * Universal indicator changes color depending on the pH of the solution.

    * Acids have a pH lower than 7.

    * Ethanoic acid is a weak acid, meaning it doesn't fully ionize in solution and doesn't release as many hydrogen ions (H+) as a strong acid like hydrochloric acid. This means it will be less acidic than a strong acid.

Therefore, the color change with universal indicator will be subtle, leaning towards the reddish-orange side of the pH scale, indicating a slightly acidic solution.
