  • Understanding Saltwater: Molecules and Composition
    Salt water is made of more than one type of molecule. Here's why:

    * Water (H₂O): This is the primary component of salt water. It consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom bonded together.

    * Salt (NaCl): This is the dissolved mineral that gives salt water its salty taste. It consists of one sodium atom (Na) and one chlorine atom (Cl) bonded together.

    When salt dissolves in water, the Na⁺ and Cl⁻ ions separate and become surrounded by water molecules. So, salt water is a solution containing:

    * Water molecules (H₂O)

    * Sodium ions (Na⁺)

    * Chloride ions (Cl⁻)

    Therefore, salt water is a mixture of multiple different molecules interacting with each other.
