  • Understanding Metal Alloys: Properties & Examples
Mixtures of metals are called alloys.

Here are some examples of alloys:

    * Brass: an alloy of copper and zinc

    * Bronze: an alloy of copper and tin

    * Steel: an alloy of iron and carbon

    * Pewter: an alloy of tin, lead, antimony, and copper

    * Solder: an alloy of lead and tin

Alloys are often made to improve the properties of the individual metals, such as strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, or conductivity.
