  • Gold's Chemical Inertness: Why It Resists Dilute Acids
    The metal that will not react with dilute acids is gold (Au).

    Here's why:

    * Gold is a noble metal: This means it's very unreactive and resistant to corrosion.

    * High electronegativity: Gold has a high electronegativity, meaning it strongly holds onto its electrons and doesn't readily give them up to form ions.

    * Strong metallic bonding: The strong metallic bonds within gold make it difficult for acids to break apart its structure.

    While gold can be dissolved by strong oxidizing acids like aqua regia (a mixture of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid), it will not react with dilute acids like hydrochloric acid (HCl) or sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄).
