  • Understanding the N-H Bond: Properties and Polarity
The N-H bond is a polar covalent bond. Here's why:

    * Covalent Bond: Nitrogen (N) and Hydrogen (H) share electrons to achieve a stable electron configuration. This sharing forms a covalent bond.

    * Polar: Nitrogen is more electronegative than hydrogen, meaning it attracts the shared electrons more strongly. This creates a partial negative charge (δ-) on the nitrogen atom and a partial positive charge (δ+) on the hydrogen atom. The unequal sharing of electrons makes the bond polar.

This polarity is important because it gives molecules containing N-H bonds (like ammonia, NH3) properties like hydrogen bonding.
