  • Neutralization Reaction: Products and Process Explained
When neutralization occurs, two substances are formed:

    1. Salt: This is an ionic compound formed from the positive ion of the base and the negative ion of the acid. For example, when sodium hydroxide (NaOH) reacts with hydrochloric acid (HCl), the salt formed is sodium chloride (NaCl).

    2. Water: This is formed from the hydrogen ions (H+) from the acid and the hydroxide ions (OH-) from the base.

The general equation for neutralization is:

    Acid + Base → Salt + Water

    Here's a simple example:

HCl (acid) + NaOH (base) → NaCl (salt) + H2O (water)
