  • Endothermic Reactions: Definition, Examples & How They Work
    Chemical reactions that absorb energy are called endothermic reactions.

    Here's why:

    * Endo means "within" and thermic refers to heat.

    * In endothermic reactions, energy is absorbed from the surroundings, usually in the form of heat. This causes the temperature of the surroundings to decrease.

    * A good example is the melting of ice. Ice absorbs heat from the surroundings to melt into water.
