  • Sodium Hydroxide and Lithium Nitrate Reaction: Chemical Equation & Products
    The reaction between sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and lithium nitrate (LiNO₃) is a double displacement reaction, where the cations and anions of the two reactants swap partners.

    However, this reaction does not result in a significant chemical change. The products formed are sodium nitrate (NaNO₃) and lithium hydroxide (LiOH), both of which are soluble in water. Therefore, the reaction essentially results in a solution containing a mixture of all four ions: Na⁺, OH⁻, Li⁺, and NO₃⁻.

    Here's the chemical equation:

    NaOH (aq) + LiNO₃ (aq) ⇌ NaNO₃ (aq) + LiOH (aq)

    This reaction is reversible and is in equilibrium. The forward and reverse reactions occur at the same rate, so there is no net change in the concentrations of reactants or products.
