  • Argon Oxidation Number: Understanding Its Stability & Value
Argon (Ar) is a noble gas. Noble gases have a full outer shell of electrons, making them very stable and unreactive. This means they generally do not gain or lose electrons, and therefore have an oxidation number of 0.

While it's possible to force argon into compounds under extreme conditions, it's not something that happens naturally. So, for all practical purposes, argon always has an oxidation number of 0.
