  • Understanding pH: Are Household Products Acidic or Alkaline?
    Most household products are alkaline, also known as basic.

    Here's why:

    * Cleaning Products: Many cleaning products, like detergents, soaps, and even bleach, are alkaline. They work by breaking down grease and grime, and alkaline solutions are effective at doing this.

    * Food: Many foods, particularly fruits and vegetables, are slightly acidic. However, many other foods, like baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), are alkaline.

    * Personal Care: Products like shampoo and body wash are often slightly acidic, but many others, like toothpaste and mouthwash, contain alkalines.

    Here are some examples:

    Acids:

    * Vinegar

    * Citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, etc.)

    * Tomato juice

    * Aspirin

    Alkalines:

    * Baking soda

    * Ammonia

    * Bleach

    * Soap

    * Detergent

    It's important to note: The pH scale measures acidity and alkalinity. A pH of 7 is neutral. Anything below 7 is acidic, and anything above 7 is alkaline. Most household products fall within a range of slightly acidic to moderately alkaline.

    Important Considerations:

    * Safety: Always read the product label and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Some household products can be dangerous if misused.

    * Mixing: Never mix cleaning products unless specifically instructed to do so. Mixing certain chemicals can create dangerous fumes.

    * pH Balance: While most products are either acidic or alkaline, some are designed to be more neutral.
