  • Sodium Monoxide (Na₂O): Understanding Ionic Bonding
Sodium monoxide (Na₂O) is an ionic bond.

    Here's why:

    * Sodium (Na) is a metal and tends to lose one electron to become a positively charged ion (Na⁺).

    * Oxygen (O) is a nonmetal and tends to gain two electrons to become a negatively charged ion (O²⁻).

The electrostatic attraction between the positively charged sodium ions and the negatively charged oxide ions creates the ionic bond in sodium monoxide.
