  • Creating Heterogeneous Mixtures: Sugar & Salt Crystal Formation
    Here's how you can form a heterogeneous mixture of sugar and salt crystals:

    1. The "Just Mix It" Method:

    * Materials: Sugar crystals, salt crystals, a container.

    * Procedure:

    * Simply pour the sugar crystals and salt crystals into the container.

    * Give the mixture a gentle shake or stir.

    Why this works: Sugar and salt crystals are different sizes and have different properties. Even with mixing, the crystals will remain distinct, creating a heterogeneous mixture.

    2. The "Layering" Method:

    * Materials: Sugar crystals, salt crystals, a tall, clear container.

    * Procedure:

    * Carefully layer the sugar crystals at the bottom of the container.

    * Gently pour the salt crystals on top of the sugar layer.

    Why this works: This method visually emphasizes the heterogeneity by creating distinct layers of the two components.

    Important Note: A heterogeneous mixture is one where the components are not evenly distributed and can be visually distinguished. In both methods described above, you can easily identify the sugar and salt crystals even after mixing.
