  • Heterogeneous Mixtures: Sand and Water - A Simple Example
A classic example of a solid and liquid mixture is sand and water.

    Here's why:

    * Solid: The sand particles are solid and have a defined shape.

    * Liquid: The water is a liquid and takes the shape of its container.

When mixed, the sand doesn't dissolve in the water, but it suspends within it. You can see the individual sand particles in the water. This type of mixture is called a heterogeneous mixture, meaning the components are not evenly distributed.
