  • Ammonia Production: Reactants, Products & Chemical Reaction
The production of ammonia (NH₃) involves the following reaction:

    Reactants:

    * Nitrogen gas (N₂): A colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that makes up roughly 78% of the Earth's atmosphere.

    * Hydrogen gas (H₂): A colorless, odorless, and flammable gas.

    Product:

    * Ammonia (NH₃): A colorless gas with a pungent odor. It is highly soluble in water and forms ammonium hydroxide (NH₄OH) in solution.

The balanced chemical equation for the reaction is:

    N₂ + 3H₂ → 2NH₃

This reaction is called the Haber-Bosch process and is a key industrial process for producing ammonia. It is carried out under high pressure and temperature using a catalyst.
