    The metal present in the red pigment of blood is iron.

    The red pigment is called hemoglobin, and it contains a molecule called heme. Heme is made up of a porphyrin ring with an iron atom at its center. This iron atom is what binds to oxygen in the lungs and carries it throughout the body.
