  • Protein vs. Salt: Understanding Molecular Size
Proteins are much larger molecules than salt.

    * Proteins are complex macromolecules composed of long chains of amino acids linked together by peptide bonds. They can vary in size from a few amino acids to thousands of amino acids, resulting in molecular weights ranging from a few thousand to millions of Daltons.

    * Salt (sodium chloride, NaCl) is a simple ionic compound formed by the electrostatic attraction between sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl-) ions. Its molecular weight is 58.44 Daltons.

Therefore, a single protein molecule is typically significantly larger than a single salt molecule.
