  • Coke Production: The Role of Carbonization and Coal Transformation
    There are no microorganisms involved in the production of coke.

    Coke is a solid carbonaceous material produced by heating coal in the absence of air (a process called carbonization). This process involves physical and chemical changes within the coal, breaking down its organic matter and driving off volatile components like water, methane, and other hydrocarbons.

    The key chemical transformations that occur during coking are:

    * Dehydration: Water is driven off from the coal.

    * Decomposition of organic matter: Complex organic molecules are broken down into simpler compounds.

    * Formation of volatile products: Gases like methane, hydrogen, and tar are released.

    * Carbonization: The remaining solid material is transformed into coke, which is primarily composed of carbon.

    While microorganisms can play a role in other processes like biogas production, they are not involved in the production of coke.
