  • Understanding Water Molecules: Polarity and Covalent Bonds
A water molecule is a polar covalent molecule. Here's why:

    * Covalent: The hydrogen and oxygen atoms in a water molecule share electrons to form bonds. This sharing is what makes it a covalent bond.

    * Polar: The oxygen atom is more electronegative than the hydrogen atoms. This means it pulls the shared electrons closer to itself, creating a partial negative charge on the oxygen atom and partial positive charges on the hydrogen atoms. This uneven distribution of charge makes the molecule polar.
