  • Understanding Carbon Dioxide: The Byproduct of Cellular Respiration
    The gas produced by cells and exhaled by the lungs is carbon dioxide (CO2).

    Here's why:

    * Cellular Respiration: Cells use oxygen to break down glucose (sugar) for energy. This process, called cellular respiration, produces carbon dioxide as a waste product.

    * Exhalation: The carbon dioxide produced by cells travels through the bloodstream to the lungs, where it is exhaled.
