  • Understanding Acidic Solutions: How Acids Affect pH
An acid produces an acidic solution.

    Here's why:

    * Acids release hydrogen ions (H+) in solution. This is the defining characteristic of an acid.

    * The presence of H+ ions makes a solution acidic. The more H+ ions present, the stronger the acid.

You can measure the acidity of a solution using a pH scale. Acidic solutions have a pH less than 7.
