    The part of the cell membrane that helps chemical reactions happen is the phospholipid bilayer.

    Here's why:

    * Signal Transduction: The cell membrane plays a crucial role in signal transduction, which is the process of receiving and responding to signals from the environment. This involves the activation of specific proteins and enzymes within the membrane, triggering a series of chemical reactions that ultimately alter cell behavior.

    Therefore, while the phospholipid bilayer provides the basic structure and barrier function, it's the embedded proteins, particularly enzymes, that directly facilitate chemical reactions within the cell membrane.
