  • Chitin Composition: Understanding the Atoms in Chitin
    Chitin is a complex carbohydrate made up of:

    * Carbon (C)

    * Hydrogen (H)

    * Nitrogen (N)

    * Oxygen (O)

    The basic building block of chitin is N-acetylglucosamine, a modified glucose molecule with an added nitrogen-containing group. These molecules are linked together in long chains to form the chitin polymer.
