  • Heat Transfer by Conduction: Do Molecules Stop Moving?
    That statement is false.

    Here's why:

    * Conduction is the transfer of heat through direct contact between molecules.

    * Molecules always move, even in solids. The difference is in the *speed* of their movement.

    * In conduction, hotter molecules vibrate faster and transfer some of their energy to cooler molecules through collisions.

So, instead of stopping, molecules need to be moving in order for heat to be transferred by conduction.
