  • Heat Conduction: Which State of Matter is the Worst?
The phase of matter that does not conduct heat well is gas.

    Here's why:

    * Gases have widely spaced particles with weak intermolecular forces. This means there is little interaction between the particles, limiting the transfer of thermal energy through collisions.

    * Liquids have particles closer together than gases, allowing for more frequent collisions and better heat conduction.

    * Solids have the most tightly packed particles with strong intermolecular forces. This enables efficient transfer of heat through vibrations and collisions.

Therefore, gases are poor conductors of heat, while solids are the best conductors.
