  • Thermal Expansion: Understanding Volume Changes with Temperature
The increase in volume of a substance due to an increase in temperature is called thermal expansion.

There are two types of thermal expansion:

    * Linear expansion: The change in length of a solid object due to a change in temperature.

    * Volume expansion: The change in volume of a substance (solid, liquid, or gas) due to a change in temperature.

It's important to remember that different materials expand at different rates. For example, steel expands more than concrete when heated.
