  • Water's States of Matter: Liquid, Solid & Gas Explained
Water can exist in three states:

    * Liquid: This is the state we're most familiar with, where water molecules are close together but can move around freely.

    * Solid: When water freezes, it becomes ice, a solid state where the molecules are arranged in a fixed, crystalline structure.

    * Gas: When water evaporates or boils, it becomes water vapor, a gaseous state where the molecules are far apart and move around randomly.

So, while water is a liquid at room temperature, it can also exist as a gas (water vapor) and a solid (ice).
