  • Cholesterol: Understanding Its Sources and Production
The main source of cholesterol is your body.

    * About 80% of the cholesterol in your body is produced by your liver.

    * Only 20% comes from dietary sources.

While you do get some cholesterol from animal-based foods like eggs, meat, and dairy, your liver is much more efficient at producing it.

However, consuming too much saturated and trans fats can lead to higher cholesterol levels in your body. This is why it's important to focus on a healthy diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and to limit your intake of processed foods, saturated fats, and trans fats.
