    When a substance evaporates, its molecules undergo a dramatic transformation:

    1. Increased Kinetic Energy: The molecules in a liquid are constantly moving and colliding with each other. When the liquid is heated, the molecules absorb energy and their kinetic energy increases. This increased energy causes the molecules to move faster and further apart.

    2. Breaking Intermolecular Bonds: The molecules in a liquid are held together by attractive forces called intermolecular bonds. These bonds are weaker than the intramolecular bonds that hold atoms together within a molecule. As the molecules gain energy, they overcome these intermolecular forces and break free from the liquid surface.

    3. Transition to Gas Phase: Once the molecules break free from the liquid, they enter the gas phase. In the gas phase, the molecules are much farther apart and move around randomly. They are no longer bound together by intermolecular forces.
